Create deep dive from Radio show

Using NotebookLM to analyze audio and generate a “Deep Dive” podcast is a great way to repurpose content. You are correct that NotebookLM currently exports its Audio Overviews in the .wav or .aac (often wrapped as .mp4 or .mpa) format, which isn’t always ideal for WordPress storage or compatibility.

Here are the specific steps to get your radio show processed and converted back to MP3.

Step 1: Prepare and Upload to NotebookLM

  1. Open NotebookLM: Go to notebooklm.google.com.
  2. Create a New Notebook: Click the “+” icon to start a new project. Name it something relevant to your radio show.
  3. Upload the Source: In the “Add source” window, select Upload file. Choose your original radio show MP3.
    • Note: NotebookLM will transcribe the audio so it can “read” the content.

Step 2: Generate the Deep Dive Review

  1. Open Notebook Guide: Once the file is uploaded, click on Notebook Guide in the bottom right corner.
  2. Generate Audio Overview: Look for the “Audio Overview” section and click Generate.
  3. Wait for Processing: NotebookLM will create a “Deep Dive” conversation between two AI hosts. This usually takes 2–5 minutes depending on the length of your source material.

Step 3: Download the AI Conversation

  1. Download the File: Once the audio is ready, click the three-dot menu (⋮) next to the play button in the Audio Overview player.
  2. Save to Computer: Select Download. As you noted, this will likely save as a high-quality but bulky file format (like .wav or .aac).

Step 4: Convert to MP3 for WordPress

Since you need an MP3 for your website, you’ll need to convert the downloaded file. You can do this without downloading any new software.

Option A: Use an Online Converter (Quickest) I use VLC

NOTE: your wordpress platform or host may place a limit of the upload file size.
you may need to add another step once you put your deep dive recording into mp3.
Use AUDACITY (free program) to shrink the file, by decreasing the size to 22000khz

  1. Go to a site like CloudConvert or Zamzar.
  2. Upload the file you just downloaded from NotebookLM.
  3. Set the output format to MP3.
  4. Set the bitrate to 128kbps or 192kbps (this keeps the file size small for WordPress while maintaining voice clarity).
  5. Download the converted MP3.

Option B: Use VLC Media Player (Offline & Secure)

  1. Open VLC and go to Media > Convert / Save.
  2. Add your NotebookLM file.
  3. Click Convert / Save.
  4. In the “Profile” dropdown, select Audio – MP3.
  5. Choose your destination folder and click Start.

Step 5: Upload to WordPress

  1. Log in to your WordPress Dashboard.
  2. Go to Media > Add New.
  3. Drag and drop your new MP3 file.
  4. Copy the File URL to use in your player or post.
